Hello and welcome to “At First Sight Saturday.” Today’s guest is author, Susan A. Royal, who gives us a ‘first sight’ scene from her book Not Long Ago  and introduces us to hero, Griffin, and heroine, Erin. Be sure to leave a comment to let Susan know what you think.

Excerpts: While unloading the cart by myself and calling him all kinds of names under my breath, I pretended not to watch as March and the tailor approached a knight with dark hair and broad shoulders. Half a head taller than anyone else in the courtyard, he didn’t look like someone I’d want to cross.

Somewhere in his mid to late twenties, he directed the workers around him with the ease of someone used to being in charge. Thomas got the man’s attention and made introductions before taking his leave. At one point, the seneschal turned and gave me an appraising glance. I slumped against the cart, my arms crossed over my breasts, and eyed him back. Thank God for my shapeless clothes.

When he turned away, I breathed a sigh of relief. With my face scrubbed clean of makeup, and if I kept my mouth shut, maybe it would work.

(Griffin’s reaction the first time he sees Erin as told to her after they are married): “I’ll never forget the first day I laid eyes on you. There you were, all alone in the middle of the courtyard. Arms crossed and chin jutting with defiance, despite the panic in your eyes.” He stood and pulled me to my feet. “You are stubborn and strong-willed, and you covet your independence, yet your heart holds a great deal of compassion. Except for my mother and my sister, you are stronger than any other woman I have ever known. And it makes my love for you grow every day.”

Blurb: Erin has met the man of her dreams, but it’s complicated. It’s one of those long-distance relationships, and Griffin is a little behind the times–somewhere around 600 years.

Erin and her employer, March, are transported to a time where chivalry and religion exist alongside brutality and superstition. Something is not quite right at the castle, and they are certain mysterious Lady Isobeil is involved. They must cope with crop circles, ghosts, kidnapping, and death while searching for the way home.

Posing as March’s nephew, Erin finds employment as handsome Sir Griffin’s squire.  From the start, she’s attracted to him and grows to admire his courage, quiet nobility, and devotion to duty. Yet Erin must deny her feelings. She wants to go home, even though she can’t stop thinking about her knight in shining armor.
