Is it egotistical for an author to feature herself on her own blog? Is it a sign of unforgivable hubris? Well I think it might be, otherwise I’d probably never ask the question. And since I am featuring myself on my own blog, I guess I can’t claim that I’m not trying to brag nor announce that I am neither vain nor self-centered. I mean, really, would you believe me if I told you I’m only doing this because no one signed up.

What’s that you say? You might, if I hadn’t raised the question of hubris earlier. Well I agree with you, but I have something important to say about pride and vanity and authorship.

Incredible amounts of vanity, self-centered pride, and other synonyms of hubris are required for an author to believe that he or she could capture the attention of a reader long enough to tell the story that’s been occupying every thinking moment of the author’s life for a year or longer. (About that year, I and most authors start thinking about stories long before we ever start writing.) In truth, we are shy humble creatures who fear rejection and snarky, snide reviews the way a cobra fears a mongoose (see Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling if you don’t get the reference). However, that shyness, that fear doesn’t stop us. We true authors are compelled–and you may call it hubris if you like–to publish. Some of us only publish to those who love us and will never criticize. Many of us risk more for the reward is greater. We risk to hear from some stranger that the words we wrote moved him or her in some mystical way that they had not been moved before, be it inspiration, motivation, comprehension or simple enjoyment.

So here with all hubris and humility is my latest offering to you. My re-imagined story of opposites attracting, The Catnapped Lover.

Blurb: Win the bet or win the lady, but he can’t have both.

What does a bet between best friends have to do with a kidnapped cat and a tumbled-down animal shelter?  Nothing, unless you are Adam Talcott and you want to prove to your best-buddy that you can survive without access to your wealth and family connections.  Adam would have succeeded too, if it hadn’t been for Dierdre Clancy and that blasted cat.

About  the Author:  Author of historical and contemporary romances, I fell in love with happily ever after the day I heard my first story. (Yes, I was a precocious little brat who read at the age of two, but I could hear much earlier than that.) I studied literature for far too many years before discovering that writing stories was much more fun than writing about them. Heck, as an author, I get to read the story before anyone else. I am happily married to my sweetheart of many, many years. Insatiably curious, an avid reader and traveler I love to hear from readers about your favorite books and real-life adventures. Crazy Cat stories are especially welcome. You can send me your words of wisdom . . . Don’t shake your head at me; all words are wise in one context or another. You can trust me on this; I’m an author. As I was saying, you can send your words of wisdom, humor, and friendship to me at Rue@RueAllyn.com. Can’t wait to hear from you.
