Tell Us Aviva, Is It True?

Welcome to What’s the Story. I’m Rue Allyn, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Aviva Orr author of Love and Liberty, a sweet Victorian romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

Is it true that this is your first book?

Love and Liberty is my fourth book. My first book is titled The Mist on Brontë Moor and was inspired by a visit to the  Brontë  parsonage in Haworth.

Is it true that this book is part of a series?

Love and Liberty is Book 3 in the Love and Literature series.

Is it true that you lost sleep while writing this book?

I’m a night owl, so late night writing is the norm for me.

Is it true that you did research for this book?

I always do extensive research for my books. Love and Liberty is set in the historic city of Canterbury, England, and I visited Canterbury for a week to familiarize myself with the area. Also, since the book involves a crime, I researched the workings of the British court system during the mid-Victorian period (1869).

Is it true that some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

All the characters in Love and Liberty are human.

Is it true that this book has more than one genre?

Love and Liberty is a historical romance set in mid-Victorian England and a suspenseful crime drama full of twists and turns.

Is it true that you speak more than one language?

I speak English and Afrikaans.

Is it true that you grew up where you live now?

I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, and I currently live in Southern California.

Is it true that you love to read?

I have loved reading since I was a child and even chose to study literature at college.

Is it true that you are never late?

Unfortunately, I’m often late, or rushing to be on time at the last minute.

Is it true that you love pizza?

Everyone loves pizza, right?

Is it true that you love sushi?

I love California roll—does that count?

Is it true that you have a pet?

I have an adorable silky/Yorkshire terrier named Branwell. He is a rescue, and I am so grateful he came into our lives.

About Love and Liberty: Annabel Leonard’s life takes a drastic turn when her father, a wealthy confectionary merchant, demands that she marry a bankrupt viscount to merge the family fortune with a title. Annabel soon discovers that the intended viscount is a brute who masks his sadistic proclivities behind good looks and charm. When her hard-headed father and conniving stepmother refuse to listen to reason, she takes matters into her own hands, plotting her escape and fleeing her home late one night.

Since discovering a family secret that casts doubt on his paternity and title, Lord Henry Hudsyn has been on a downward spiral, causing those who love him to grow concerned about his drinking and gambling habits. Henry travels to Canterbury to appease his worried cousin and attempts to rehabilitate himself by volunteering at her ladies’ college. Things look up when he meets Anne Crawford, a charming young widow. But little does Henry know the woman he is falling in love with isn’t a widow named Anne Crawford. She’s Annabel Leonard—the missing young heiress betrothed to Henry’s nemesis–whose sudden disappearance from her father’s Park Lane mansion has headlined the newspapers for weeks.

This dangerous reality has dire consequences that threaten to derail blossoming love and future happiness.
